Ann Guidry is an Austin-based freelance writer and editor who began her career as a book reviewer for The Austin Chronicle. She has edited book-length fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, legal briefs, English Language Arts teaching materials, and Ph.D. dissertations; written encyclopedia entries for Macmillan Reference USA; and pitched, researched, and written feature articles for CareerBuilder.com, LDB Interior Textiles, the Austin American-Statesman, and The Good Life.
 
Her most recent projects include writing promotional materials and monthly newsletter copy for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Square Meals program, and web content and catalog and print ad copy for Seasonal Living Trading Company. Ann currently works as a part-time copy editor for Strategic Forecasting, Inc., a high profile global intelligence firm.

Seasonal Living Trading Company: 2006 – present
Write web content and online and print advertising copy for this luxury outdoor living products retailer. Work closely with Seasonal Living founder to capture the essence of the company and clearly define the company’s demographic. Collaborate with graphic and web designers to coordinate copy with visual elements and page layout for the website, print ads, catalogs, and marketing packages, including two that earned the company the ARTS Award for Most Outstanding Outdoor Living Manufacturer in North America for 2006 and 2007. Texas Department of Agriculture: 2008 – 2009
Wrote educational and promotional copy highlighting proper nutrition and exercise for a broad range of audiences including children, parents, educators, and foodservice professionals. Also researched story ideas, conducted interviews, and wrote copy for the TDA’s Kids@Heart newsletter, an online publication with over one million subscribers across Texas.
 
Fusion Learning Systems: 2006 – 2008
Created e-learning storyboards for middle school students for Riverdeep in 2006. In 2007, wrote corporate training courses for Dell Inc. In 2008, wrote corporate training courses and brand marketing materials for Liz Claiborne, Inc. Each project required lightning fast turnarounds, strict adherence to deadlines, creative thinking, and the ability to gather and synthesize information quickly and write age- and audience-appropriate scripts and learning materials.

Anaxos, Inc.: 2005 – 2008

In 2005, as English Language Arts Editor, managed freelance writers, wrote scripts for video and Flash online lessons, and produced review, quiz, and test questions. As contract writer, responsibilities included researching, writing, and editing reference products and educational materials for Gale, The Literary Encyclopedia, Riverdeep, and others. Specific projects included writing and/or editing literary guides and encyclopedia entries for such titles as Gale's Literary Newsmakers for Students, Gale Contextual Encyclopedia of World Literature, Gale Contextual Encyclopedia of American Literature, Gale Encyclopedia of World History: War, and Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. History: War.

The University of Texas Distance Education Center: 2005
Wrote and edited Flash animation scripts to be used as alternative teaching tools for high school world geography, world history, and U.S. history lessons. Duties included reading other writers’ scripts for clarity, cohesiveness, and content; researching a wide variety of social studies topics and themes; and writing engaging, educational, age-appropriate scripts.
 
The Good Life: 2004 – 2009  
Assignments included car, fashion, and food columns, advertorials, and feature articles. Additional assignments include researching, compiling, and editing magazine special sections and directories.

Wrote real estate profiles that required extensive research and interviews with neighborhood association members and real estate agents.

Wrote feature articles and covered the Dallas International Gift and Home Accessories show five years in a row for this highly regarded soft home furnishings trade publication.
 
Macmillan Reference USA, Gale Group: 2001
Wrote encyclopedia entries for Animal Sciences, part of the Macmillan Science Library series. Required extensive research, adherence to strict editorial constraints, and the ability to translate potentially complicated ideas for a target audience of high school students.
